British Franchise Association

BFA

To be accepted into British Franchise Association (BFA) provisional membership – the UK’s only regulatory body for franchising – Avanti had to pass a rigorous accreditation process which reviewed all aspects of its franchise operation to ensure that is proven, protected, ethical, sustainable and that its documents are free of ambiguity and misleading statements.
With assistance from regional law firm Birketts, itself an Affiliate member of the BFA, Avanti's franchise agreement was deemed to meet all of the BFA's Code of Ethics and its franchisee development programme demonstrated to be founded on good franchising practise.

Why Franchise?

If asked to name a successful franchise you would probably say someone like McDonalds. But franchising can be traced back as far as The Middle Ages in England. However, it became more popular in the 18th century with Public Houses. In the 1860s Isaac Singer achieved the ability to mass-produce his famous sewing machines. Over the following century the United States pioneered the franchise model with General Motors in the 1900s.

After the 2nd World War franchising grew rapidly with soft drink giants such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi – this was the start of Business Format Franchising – now often referred to as a ‘turnkey’ package and was firmly established as a distinct business model and proven systems in the 1950s. During the 1950s and 1960s franchising really took off in the U.K.

Modern franchising is home to a vast array of business sectors, both B2B and B2C, blue collar and white collar, from home-based operations to some of the world's most recognised brands. The chances are that most people use the services of a franchise business each week either personally or professionally, even if they don't realise it at the time. Franchising has never been better than it is now.

The following statistics, from the bfa/NatWest Franchise Survey 2015, show the health of UK franchising:

  • Industry annual turnover: £15.1bn
  • Number of franchisor brands operating in the UK: 901
  • Number of franchisee outlets: 44,200
  • Number of people employed in franchising: 621,000
  • Percentage of units profitable (including new businesses): 97%
  • This has grown from an industry that 20 years ago had a turnover of just over £5 billion, had 379 different brands and represented 18,300 franchisee outlets.

The Benefits

The Benefits Of A Franchise

  • Established systems
  • Brand awareness and marketing
  • Financial Institutions like franchising – as they are proven models
  • Training programs
  • Territory exclusivity - you will be entitled to a certain area and no other franchises (within your franchise system) can be open within that area.

Most importantly…. when you buy a franchise you are never alone. You will always be able to pick up the phone and ask questions to the franchisor or even to other franchisees.

You are a technician – you will be good at what you do, but there is so much more to running a business and running it efficiently.  By choosing Avanti as your franchise option, you will be affiliated with a well-respected, established practice, with excellent policies and procedures and the provision of a full back up support service.

Networking
